The tight clove skin on Silverskins and the late maturation dates enable these types to be stored for long periods of time. Bulb wrappers are fine, smooth, and usually white. 3 to 6 clove layers are common. Total cloves per bulb vary from 12 to 20. Outer cloves are usually flat and wide, while inner cloves are tall, narrow, and concave.
Silverwhite has a rich garlicky flavor that seems almost mellow before you experience an intense heat rush. There's a lot to be said for a garlic that can store 10 months at room temperature and still be firm and good.
